Neurostimulation Therapy

Neurostimulation Therapy (Spinal Cord Stimulation) is a treatment method that can improve a patient’s quality of life and pain relief.  This type of therapy may be especially beneficial for those patients who still suffer with pain after an unsuccessful back surgery, patients who suffer with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) or patients who suffer from neuropathy.  Neurostimulation works by stimulating the sensory portion of your spinal cord with pleasant tingling sensations, which block the communication of pain signals to your brain from your painful body parts.

What is great about this technology is that the doctors at Novocur can test the pain blocking effect on your specific pain for several days with a Therapy Trial that does not require any long term commitment.  The Neurostimulation Trial can also allow you to feel the tingling sensation generated by the neurostimulator, which blocks the signals of pain from reaching your brain.  Lastly, the trial will help you decide if you want to proceed with having a neurostimulation system implant to provide long-term therapy.

Neurostimulation Therapy Trials only take 30-45 minutes in the Novocur Surgical Center to implement and can be performed with conscious sedation – general anesthesia is not required.  Patients return home the same day shortly after the Trial is implemented.  Patients return to Novocur a few days later to remove the electrodes and discuss with the doctor their results and determine if they wish to proceed with long-term therapy in the form of a permanent Neurostimulator implant.
